A taste of Bootcamp...

This past Friday, August 1st,we were lucky enough to enjoy a 2 hour taste of boot camp, thanks to special guest instructor (not to mention one of Baron's most popular teachers) Kinndli McCollum.
Kinddle is part of the team and resident DJ at all Personal Revolution Bootcamps and we were so thrilled to have her share the magic that happens at these programs with us.
Lets hope we get another great opportunity like this in the very near future! If you happened to be one of the lucky participants, send us an email and share your experience here on our blog.

Marathons, Triatholans and Yoga! OH MY!

I had recently quit running when I signed up at Big Apple Power Yoga. I had developed an unhealthy dependency on running even though, I really hated the actual activity.
Any sort of mental dependency is bound to interfere with the good stuff about physical activity, and for me running had become something I forced myself to do, even though it did nothing to make me feel better.
BAPY was my saving grace. Allowing my mind to calm down and my obsession float away. Probably, for the first time in my life, I could feel that mind/body connection I had heard so much about. I was sweating, strengthening every muscle, bending, twisting, breathing and focusing... and if felt incredible both internally and externally!!!
I practiced often, but there was nothing forced or dreaded about it. I couldn't wait to practice, couldn't wait to feel what I felt during practice and of course how amazing I felt afterward. Both my body and mind changed for the better! My clothes fit better, I walk taller, my skin is softer, I am calmer and more aware of my surroundings. I could go on and on, but needless to say I am tremendously thankful.
Recently I signed up to run my first marathon and am back on the running. But thanks to my yoga practice, my whole attitude towards running has changed for the better. I am a completely different runner than I was before. I enjoy running and look forward to my long run days where I shift into a meditative zone that I learned through my BAPY practice. I think a lot of these changes can be attributed to the fact that both my mind and body are healthy, and I gotta give BAPY credit for a huge portion of that balance.
This practice is the perfect cross-training option for me it strengthens, stretches, detoxifies and relaxes me. After a 10 mile run in the sweltering NY summer heat, what do I look forward to the most? A 90 minute BAPY session in a 95 degree room.
So, in advance, I want to thank Big Apple Power Yoga for getting me across that October finish line!

I have been an avid triathlete for over 15 years, doing at least six Olympic distance triathlons a summer. I have done six marathons, several half marathons, half iron man distance triathlons. I have also done the famous "Escape from Alcatraz" triathlon and "Wildflower" triathlons in California.

I started yoga with Nanci about three years ago. I immediately fell in love with this type of yoga. As a triathlete, doing yoga was so beneficial to me in many ways. First of all it helped to stretch my muscles and make me more relaxed, more focused and understand how my body moves.

I was doing the Fairlee triathlon in Vermont two summers ago and I was on the last leg, the run. Suddenly, Nanci, popped into my head saying breath,,, use your yoga breath. I did and I finished on a "high". It was amazing. I feel my leg strength has improved tremendously. I am able to float up those nasty hills of San Francisco with out a hitch...

Yoga is a huge part of my life now. It makes me a better Mom, wife and triathlete. I will incorporate it into my world for the rest of my life.

Namaste.
Nancy

Nanci, Your studio has allowed me to evolve in so many ways on and off my mat and I will forever be grateful for that.

The energy there empowers me in so many ways! I know it must take so much work and emotions, to do what you and Michael do, but I know in the end it will all be worth it.

Your dedication helps so many people and I know you will have a successful studio for that reason!

thanks again for everything!

40 Days to Personal Revolution

Recently we completed our 40 Days to Personal Revolution Program, which was so popular, we decided to bring it back this fall (9/7-10/12).

Participants enjoyed a 40 day unlimited yoga class pass, 40 Days to Personal Revolution book by Baron Baptiste, Weekly group meetings for program instruction/support/sharing and meditation and many other BAPY goodies!

This program includes, naturally, yoga practice as well as weekly dietary awareness themes centered around discovering and practicing a vibrant new health plan for the physical body. The 4th weeks practice includes a 3 day fruit cleanse.

When I signed up for 40 days, I was carrying around an overall feeling of overwhelm and irritability with life.
It felt as if I was spiraling deeper into burn out mode which included constant worry about career, money, and whatever else my busy mind could come up with to create angst. This led to numbing out with alcohol, food, and endless talk about what wasn't working in my life.
Enter 40 Days...
For starters, 40 days gave me a structure with accountability points built in. The program was way more than an intense physical "ringing out" and strengthening on our yoga mats. Daily meditation, journaling, and conscious eating guidelines provided the opportunity for a comprehensive, total overhaul and reconnection of body, mind, and spirit.
It's easy to get caught in zones of comfort, whether it's a "usual" workout routine turned boring or ineffective or diets that are an obligation rather than a template for discovering what truly works for you. And then there's the endless mind chatter that can be the source of anxiety and indecision. 40 Days addresses all of these life components.
It was so helpful to share my journey and learn from the inspiring group of fellow-40 day participants. I was amazed at the discoveries I made over the course of the program. I realized that in all my efforts to "succeed" and be happy in life, I was missing the most important moment, NOW! (which is where life actually happens!)
The program provided a home base for me to make daily check ins with myself on all levels, and based on observing my mind/body changes along the way, I better understand myself and what I need to stay grounded, present, and energized. I've decided to continue incorporating most of the elements of the program in my "post-40 Day" life because I feel so good living this way.
The 40 Day program is such an effective tool to get empowered, on track, and focused.
Thank you, Big Apple Power Yoga and Nanci for offering this life-changing opportunity to New York City.
My wish is for everyone to give themselves this gift and discover the beautiful, powerful you that is meant to shine!

The 40 days went by quickly, for me I got a lot of little good events

There were all kinds of strange things that happened for me during the 40 days .
here is a short list of some of them

1. My awareness of my surroundings grew and grew (what was first just a Manhattan office bldg the address of the yoga studio, became a center for mindfulness and calm as I approached it) I noticed the ornate ceiling, the picture of the goddess above the doors as you exit. The plaque on the front of the bldg. The incense smell as I walked around the corner to the studio
2. I shared a ride in the elevator with a guy with cobalt blue skin
3. I did a back to back class and felt really good after
4. I listened to people sharing their experiences and it was all so interesting to me
5. I felt a lightness that manifested itself so much so that I was bouncing up and down with energy after a three day fruit fast
6. The sweetest most wonderful akita , looked me in the eyes and walked on my mat
7. I could definitely notice a difference in my strength
8. I stop and breathe , when I feel myself getting caught up in the ridiculously impossible demands of work , and come back to focusing on the task at hand
9. I know I can return and return and return and return to the practice of yoga on mat and off

40 day transformations are the best !!!

Here are some of my thoughts/feelings after completing the 40 days program:

1. Renewed self-confidence and really believing that I am capable of anything
2. That we truly ARE what we eat.
3. The smell of the incense when I would get out of the elevator would bring a smile to my face.
4. I learnt that it is okay to be selfish by carving out time for my SELF, through coming to practice, meditating, and eating with awareness. This has created a positive relationship between my body and mind and will help strengthen the positive relationships with others (I feel good about myself, and now I want to feel good about EVERYTHING).
5. That I'm truly blessed to have a strong body and open mind. Thank those feet and hands everyday!
6. That the effects of practicing has a 24 hour expiration, therefore you need to practice every day!
7. 40 days are just the beginning of the journey. I have the rest of my life to keep transforming and evolving, getting excited!!!

Thank you!

Love,
Meera
